15000 steps for the day, her watch said. That was strange. It was 1PM and she was just waking up. Probably a software glitch, she thought. Oddly enough, she was too euphoric to bother. A weird satisfaction. As if someone had made great love to her although it had been months since she was with a man. On New year's day, her friend had texted her late in the afternoon replying to her wishes. Apparently, he had slept in late after a particularly vibrant night. She admired him for that. Even envied him. It had been years since she had slept without an alarm. Slept without fear. Slept without a care in the world. Maybe the result of an unconscious conclusion that the less she slept the less she had to endure the nightmares. An abusive boss, failed relations, divorce, she had plenty of reasons to lose sleep. Greed. A sin that has seduced the best of mankind from times unknown. Many a treacherous journey he undertook in search of treasures hidden as greed became his god. Man dared to venture into the nature's womb, enticed by the riches it held. Closer and closer he got to hell. But is he prepared for it's secrets, only time will tell. His gaze was fiery. His skin glowing. The thews of his forearm rippling. His tall frame casting an impressive shadow as he stood over his nemesis. He offered a prayer as he raised his hammer to strike down.  This was the 34th time Radhesh was tightening the leaking joint. He was impressed by the remarkable endurance of his bodily pores to sweat profusely for hours on end. His eyes, after protesting the moisture for a while, now simply refused to work. He sensed their presence only from the burning.   “You seem like a robust, agile young fellow”, the old lady complimented. A man, less initiated in the affairs of the world, would have blushed at such perfumed words. I did not. People who know me would attest that a humbler being has seldom existed. But, in some matters, honesty is of essence. Hence, with all the modesty that I can afford, let me tell you that in such affairs as unwarranted cajolery on a train I am a seasoned veteran. I knew what was to follow. “Would you mind switching seats, my knees you see” she continued.  I did not bother to check the status of her knees. What did it matter? Belonging to lineage of chivalrous and patriotic gentlemen, I could not refuse her request, even though, to be honest, she did look like a misguided soul who prefers to run marathons on her free time.
